Laura is a Therapy Assistant and Technical Instructor with the team. Laura’s role is to work with individuals using our service to support them in learning to use electronic assistive technology.
Laura is also being supported by the team to complete a degree apprenticeship in Occupational Therapy at Huddersfield University.
Laura says:
Having a background mostly working with children who have neurodiverse conditions, such as Autism, Dyspraxia, and ADHD, I would often come across patients using alternative means of communication, which sparked an interest in the field of assistive technology.
After joining the team at Barnsley, I have been amazed by the possibilities that are available through using such technology, and I deeply value having the opportunity to meet and support so many different people across the county, enabling them to become more independent.
I’m particularly excited to implement what I learn during my studies at University into my role in the workplace, and develop my career as part of a wonderful team and working environment.
Outside of work I love to travel, having spent time living in Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. My hobbies include houseplants, hiking, camping, snowboarding, and anything involving animals!
