Nicky is an Assistive Technology Specialist Speech and Language Therapist with the team. Nicky’s role is to work with individuals using our service to assess and provide appropriate electronic assistive technology.
Nicky qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist in 2010 and initially worked in a community team for adults with long-term neurological conditions and a community stroke service. In 2015 Nicky began a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) internship, which included contributing to the development of the CARLA computerised receptive language assessment. Nicky started working at Barnsley Assistive Technology in July 2015. Nicky says:
I am enjoying the opportunity to develop my specialist clinical skills and to participate in research activity, both of which this role provides . At present I am a member of the I-ASC project team, a research project led by Manchester Metropolitan University which aims to enhance clinical decision making when identifying appropriate symbol communication aids for children who are non-speaking. I am also developing the use of Therapy Outcome Measures in the team.
