Zoë has also undertaken research work, being involved in a number of projects, publishing in national and international journals and having been an honorary researcher at the University of Sheffield and have been Deputy Theme Lead in the NIHR Healthcare Technology Co-operative ‘Devices for Dignity’.

Zoe says:

“The focus of my career has been on using my skills to enable individuals with severe physical disabilities to achieve independence and an improved quality of life. Having started my career as a Bioengineer in a Gait Analysis Laboratory I developed an interest in Assistive Technology and quickly progressed my career in this specialism. I have most recently been promoted to Environmental Control Service Lead within the Barnsley Assistive Technology Team. I contributed to the development of this team into its current status as an NHS England newly-commissioned specialised service covering Yorkshire and the Humber.

I am extremely passionate about Electronic Assistive Technology but also the importance of it being appropriately developed and provided, as technology, in order to work, needs to fit the needs of the person. I have a specific interest in the use of electronic assistive technology with people with learning disabilities.

Outside of work, I am a busy mum of three who enjoys baking and teaching aerobics. In addition I have a sibling with significant physical and learning disabilities which I feel has provided me with insight into the challenges that families face.”
