We are pleased to offer a programme of nine assistive technology modules, each lasting 30 minutes. Teams within the Yorkshire and Humberside region are invited to select two to six modules to build their own bespoke course.

The Assistive Technology modules on offer are as follows:

An Introduction to the Assistive Technology Team
An overview of what our team can offer, our referral criteria and our service pathway.

Access Methods
An introduction to the ways of accessing technology that people who require our service methods might use.

Principles of AAC Assessment
A rundown of the fundamentals required to understand a person’s AAC needs.

Practical strategies for supporting AAC
Tips on how to get the most out of AAC in the real-world.

Best practice in AAC (Effective CPD)
Want to develop your skills in AAC? Feel daunted where to start and what advice to follow? This session will point you in the right direction.

Developing your AAC service
If you’re looking to improve your service user experience, develop a care pathway or learn how to engage with service commissioners, this session will walk you through ways to achieve that.

Managing expectations
Assistive Technology might not always be able to provide the solutions people hope for. Often, services are unable to service that people might hope for. In this session we will discuss ways to support ourselves and the people we work with through times where expectations might differ or not be able to be met.

Collaborative team working
Practical advice for working with a range of services and professionals, including setting meaningful goals for the shared person you are supporting.

Graphic symbol Vocabularies
The choice of symbol vocabularies can feel overwhelming. This session will walk you through what’s on offer and why some might suit particular strengths and needs of the people who use them.

Autism and AAC
This 3.5 hour session is a stand alone course.
